7 New Orleans-area men arrested on weapons charges in St. John

RESERVE, LA (WVUE) -

Seven men were booked Wednesday on illegal possession and use of weapons charges after they were found with stolen guns, ski masks and gloves, according to the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office.

Just after 1 a.m., deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the area of 200 Chad B. Baker Street in Reserve. The caller reported seeing a white Durango and a gray Charger speeding down the street toward LA 44.

A responding unit saw the vehicles and followed them east on Airline Highway to the Belle Pointe Subdivision, where they went in two different directions. One patrol unit stopped the Durango on Airline Highway at East St. John High School, while another unit stopped the Charger on Airline Highway at Rue De Sante.

Four males from the Durango were detained, and deputies recovered a handgun from the rear passenger seat, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies detained five males from the Charger and recovered two handguns, a rifle and a shotgun. The shotgun was reported stolen out of New Orleans. Deputies also recovered dark-colored ski masks and gloves from both vehicles.

During interviews with detectives, the suspects gave conflicting stories about why they were on Chad B. Baker Street. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives anticipate additional charges will be filed.

As if there was any doubt who our No. 1 player on the countdown would be. Drew Brees may be 39, but he's still the straw that stirs the drink for the New Orleans Saints. The best to ever don the Black and Gold, signed a two-year contract this offseason with the club. Extending his career just a couple of more seasons. 2018 could be historic year for Brees.
