Orleans Parish sheriff's deputy collapses, dies while on duty

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

An Orleans Parish sheriff's deputy collapsed and died while on duty Wednesday night.

Deputy Rodney Condall, a 16-year veteran of the agency, collapsed shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the Old Parish Prison facility, located in the 2800 block of Gravier Street. Condall, age 50, was one of several deputies answering a call for assistance from another deputy, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Medical staff was immediately called to the scene and EMS personnel arrived within minutes. The deputy was routed to hospital around 9:40 p.m. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

The cause of death and the deputy's name has not been released at this time. FOX 8 will update the story as additional details become available.
