3 men convicted in 2012 murders of Briana Allen, Shawanna Pierce

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Three men were convicted Thursday (Jan. 29) in the 2012 murders of a young girl and a woman in Central City.

Tyron Harden, 21, Sam Newman, 19, and Demond Sandifer, 19, faced 51 charges, including conspiracy to engage in racketeering, conspiracy to discharge firearms during crimes of violence, armed robbery, weapons violations and multiple murders, including those of 5-year-old Briana Allen and 33-year-old Shawanna Pierce.

Prosecutors say the gunfire was meant for members of a rival gang, but stray bullets hit and killed Allen, who was at a birthday party, and Pierce, who was driving down the street a few blocks away.

Another man allegedly involved in the gunfight, Stanton Guillory, is on trial separately from his co-defendants.
