NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The city's gets into the used car business once again.
The New Orleans Department of Public Works will hold its first abandoned car auction of the year on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Buyers can register and get a look at the vehicles from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.
According to a news release, the City of New Orleans has sold more than 2,000 abandoned cars in 18 auctions. The sales contributed more than $1.4 million to the general fund.
The current auction will have 128 vehicles for sale. They were found abandoned on neighborhood streets or left unclaimed by residents with excessive parking fines and fees.
The auction will take place at the Almonaster Auto Pound, 10200 Almonaster Avenue.
Online bidding for the auction will be available. Bidders must register with Proxibid prior to the auction's start time by visiting www.brownsauction.com. You can follow that same link to information about the vehicles available in the auction.
City employees and relatives of city employees are forbidden from purchasing any vehicles at the auction.
