NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Uptown New Orleans.

According to NOPD, police responded to the call of a man and woman found unresponsive inside a home in the 5500 block of Willow Street at about 9:55 a.m. Police say their roommate told them he walked inside the house and found them both shot.

Detectives say the man fatally shot his girlfriend then shot himself. The woman was 25-years-old, the man was 28.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office released the identities of both individuals Sunday evening. The female has been identified as Sara LaMont, and the male has been identified as Wajih Mazloum.

Both LaMont and Mazloum were law students at Tulane, according to school officials. The following is a statement released by the Tulane University President Michael Fitts:

It is with deep sadness and profound concern that I write to you. Today we learned of the tragic deaths of Sara LaMont and Wajih Mazloum, two of our second-year law students, in an apparent murder-suicide at an off-campus location.

We are in contact with the families and closest friends of these two young people and are offering them every possible assistance and support. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. We are also ready to help anyone in the Tulane community in need of our counseling services. Help is available by calling the Student Health Center at 504-865-5255 or CAPS at 504-314-2277.

Today's devastating news comes as we are struggling with a number of earlier losses in the Tulane community during what has been an extraordinarily difficult year.

As we confront the tragedies that have befallen us over the last few months, our hope lies in coming together in support, understanding, care and love for one another.

I pledge to you that no effort will be spared by me or anyone in the university's leadership as we seek the comfort and healing of our community.

Mike Fitts
