VENICE, LA (WVUE) - A fishing boat captain, suffering from a head injury, was rescued from his boat off the coast of Venice, Louisiana on Monday.
The Coast Guard received a call from a crew member aboard the the fishing vessel that the captain had some kind of accident, and that he needed medical attention for injury to his head. The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m.
A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Coast Guard Station Venice small boat crew were directed to help rescue the boat captain. They arrived on scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. in the Gulf of Mexico and began the process of lowering a hoist.
Despite the cold and windy weather conditions, the Coast Guard was able to successful lift the man from the boat and raise his up to the rescue helicopter.
Once on land, personnel with Emergency Medical Services were waiting to transfer him to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of the captain's injuries, as well as his current medical condition are unknown.
