NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A new airline plans nonstop international flights out of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
Officials are expected to announce a new international airline flying out of New Orleans on Thursday.
Thursday's announcement comes on the heels of last week's addition of Branson Air Express. Already 12 airlines fly in and out of New Orleans. Last week's announcement by Branson Air Express said that it would begin flights to Branson, Cincinnati and Cancun in May.
While officials have not said where the newest airline will go, they say it adds to the ever-expanding lineup at Armstrong.
"We are at a record of 45 nonstops and 13 airlines, which is record number of airlines. The more airlines we have, the more they compete. The more they compete the lower the fare, and the lower the fares the more passengers will come to New Orleans," Iftikhar Ahmad, Executive Director of the New Orleans Aviation Board, said.
Mayor Landrieu will be on hand to help with the announcement.
