NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Some parents are objecting to a proposed settlement in a 2010 federal lawsuit that alleged public schools in New Orleans are failing meet their obligations to students with disabilities.
The settlement was announced late last year. It includes provisions for public schools in New Orleans to set up a system to identify children with disabilities, place them in schools and help them achieve educational goals.
Court records indicate several objections to the settlement have been filed under seal. And a federal judge's order late Wednesday there were "disturbing scenarios" described in those filings.
Attorneys were working to find solutions to the problems ahead of a Monday evening hearing on the settlement.
