NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - As many as 10 million gallons of BP oil sits at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

That's the finding of a recent study conducted by a Florida State University professor.

He used 62 core samples from the Gulf of Mexico.

Based on those samples, he concludes as much as 5 percent of the oil that spilled in 2010 sank to the bottom of the gulf.

He suspects the oil is one centimeter thick and covers 3,200 square miles of the gulf floor.
