Houma student, 13, arrested for bringing pellet gun to school

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 13-year-old Houma junior high school student was arrested for having a weapon at school.

Oaklawn Jr. High was briefly on lockdown Wednesday morning after a gun was allegedly found in a 13-year-old student's bag. Officers say the alleged weapon was later found to be a small pellet gun.

The pellet gun was a replica of a Smith and Wesson military and police .45 caliber pistol, officers say.

The 13-year-old was immediately arrested for illegally carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon at school. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center where he was booked
