Chilly Friday, a sunny weekend in store

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Plenty of sunshine is in store as we wrap up the week and head into the weekend.

Temperatures Friday will remain chilly with highs in the low to mid 50s. A light freeze is expected north of the Lake Friday night and Southshore temperatures will be around 42 degrees.

It will be a bit warmer for Saturday with a high of 66 degrees. Weekend parades look very pleasant!

By Saturday, evening temperatures will only be in the 50s and overnight lows in the 40s. Sunday afternoon reaches 60 degrees with evening temperatures in the 50s again.

Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras has confounded forecasters for most of this week. Rainfall and a surge of cold air have made timing the biggest outdoor event difficult to pinpoint.

As models look now, rainfall moves in on Monday and continues into Mardi Gras morning. Temperatures plummet Tuesday midday and afternoon and right now any remnant precipitation could change to sleet/snow by Tuesday evening.
