NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - After a rainy Lundi Gras evening, Fat Tuesday may be salvaged after all.
The latest computer runs show crowds on Mardi Gras may be spared the washout that had seemed likely.
"After several model runs and flip flops all week long, the new models are showing some consistency," said Nicondra Norwood, Fox 8 meteorologist.
Norwood said the new models now forecast, "Monday's rain coming later in the evening and ending early on Tuesday morning, predawn."
Revelers would still be wise to bundle up or find a costume with layers, as temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 30's when Zulu hits the streets at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The high Tuesday should reach only the low- to mid-50's.
However, krewes parading on the big day should for the most part avoid a second straight year of rain.
"When you start to see several different models giving a similar scenario, you get a lot more confident," Norwood said.
Forecasters still predict the possibility of rain early Tuesday, but it has diminished greatly.
"It's a big deal if it all works out," Norwood said.
