NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Troopers on Sunday arrested a 16-year-old for illegal possession of a handgun that was painted to resemble a toy gun, according to a State Police new release.
Just after 10:45 p.m., troopers patrolling the area of Bienville Street and N. Claiborne Avenue approached the juvenile, who was loitering around an abandoned building. During a pat-down for weapons, they found an RPG .22-caliber revolver that was painted to look like a toy gun.
The teen was booked into the New Orleans Juvenile Facility.
"Law enforcement partnerships continue to be the foundation of the 2015 Mardi Gras season," said Col. Mike Edmonson, "We will continue to be proactive and work as a unified team. This illegal weapon is indicative of the threat which law enforcement faces every day as we strive to provide a safe Carnival atmosphere."
