Two riders injured after fall from trucks in Metairie parade

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

Two riders in the Metairie truck parade were injured Tuesday when they fell off of their floats in separate incidents.

Around 12:30 p.m., a 24-year-old Metairie man fell from Elks truck float 33 at it was traveling in the 3400 block of Veterans Boulevard. The rider was semi-conscious after hitting the ground. First responders took the man to University Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. He is listed in stable condition.

Witnesses said the man appeared to fall over the side of the truck while he was passing out beads.

About 15 minutes later, a 23-year-old Lacombe woman fell from Elks truck float 49 as it approached Veterans Boulevard and Edenborn Avenue. EMS workers took her to East Jefferson General Hospital for observation. She is expected to be released after being treated for minor injuries, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
