NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department says over 400 arrests were made this Carnival season along parade routes and in the French Quarter. The arrests all come over the past 12 days.
Of these arrests, police say 16 were gun related.
New Orleans Police Chief Michael Harrison says overall, it was a relatively safe Carnival season.
"We're bringing a close to the 2015 Mardi Gras. It was a very successful, very safe Mardi Gras," he said. "It was my first Mardi Gras as a police chief. So I was extremely excited and right now I couldn't be more proud of the New Orleans Police Department. We brought the whole law enforcement community together to make sure we had a first class, world class safe and productive Mardi Gras."
More than 150 state troopers assisted the New Orleans Police Department this year to help ensure the safety of tourists and residents.
