Early bird gets the worm, or so they say.

Tulane football sure hopes so as the Green Wave began spring practice Wednesday earlier than just about every team in the country.

"If anyone gets injured we can have them back by August," coach Curtis Johnson said. "The volume of academics is really tremendous here at Tulane so I'm going to give those guys a lot of time off. And now they'll have a lot of time to get bigger, faster, stronger once spring is over."

Wednesday was the first of 14 spring practices. They'll conclude with the spring game March 14th at Yulman Stadium.
