SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - A 32-year-old Slidell man was arrested after he allegedly battered a woman and threatened to kill police.
Robert Wineman, 32, was taken into custody following a SWAT situation on Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the 3100 block of College Street early Wednesday morning after receiving reports that a man battered a woman in the area. Officers arrived on the scene to find that Wineman had barricaded himself inside of his home.
Officers were told by a family member that Wineman was armed and made threats to kill any police officer who tried to intervene.
The Slidell Police SWAT was deployed along with a crisis negotiator. Police say negotiation attempts with the suspect were unsuccessful. A SWAT team forced entry into the home and apprehended Wineman without further incident.
Police say Wineman, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number.
Wineman was transported to a local medical facility and was placed under an order of protective custody. Upon his release from police say he will face several charges related to the incident.
