NOPD arrests fugitive in double murder investigation

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The NOPD Violent Offenders Warrant Squad teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Service to arrest a fugitive wanted in a Central City double murder last year.

On Thursday afternoon, investigators caught up with 20-year-old Michael Meyers at an apartment complex in New Orleans East. His brother, 22-year-old Dereck Meyers, is already under arrest in the same Oct. 3 crime.

Police say the brothers shot and killed Troy Maxwell, 17, and Jaunice Shine, 24, near the intersection of Baronne and Second streets. Police found the victims inside a 2006 Nissan Altima. Shine was pronounced dead on the scene. Maxwell died later at a hospital.

Police have booked both Dereck  and Michael Meyers with two counts of first-degree murder.
