Plaquemines Parish sheriff warns of possible scam

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Sheriff Lonnie Greco is warning citizens of a phone scam involving their Entergy bills.

Authorities say someone is calling Plaquemines Parish residents and businesses to demand an immediate payment to cover an overdue utility bill.

A spokesperson for Entergy says the power company will never call a customer to demand payment. The company also says customers should never give personal account information to strangers. If you have questions about your bill, you can call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) to speak with a customer service representative.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office says it has recently received several complaints from residents about being contacted by scammers.

If you get one of these threatening phone calls, authorities advise you to hang up and call the police.
