Suspect in Algiers shooting turns self in

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The woman accused of shooting another woman in the throat in Algiers last night is in police custody.

According to NOPD, police arrested 24-year-old Dawn Patterson in connection with the shooting of a 21-year-old woman near the corner of General Meyer Avenue and Sullen Place on Feb. 21.

Police say that Patterson and the victim were fighting when Patterson pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the throat. Patterson ran from the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital.

During the investigation, detectives talked to witnesses and recovered the gun believed to have been used in the shooting. Detectives also learned Patterson and the victim had fought before.
