NOPD: Man wanted for attempted murder of his son

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police are searching for a man wanted for the attempted murder of his 16-year-old son. The incident occurred Sunday around 12:20 a.m. in the 7500 block of Forum Boulevard in New Orleans East. The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Clayton Mays.

Police say that Mays went to the home of his 41-year-old estranged girlfriend and began to argue with her. Shortly thereafter, Mays pulled out a gun and told the woman "I will put your lights out." The woman said that their son heard the commotion and tried to intervene. As the teen told his father to put the gun down, Mays fired three shots, one of which grazed the teen's head.

Mays drove away in a 1997 Green Chevy Lumina with an unknown license plate number. The woman brought the teen to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Once he is arrested, Mays will be charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and aggravated assault.

If you have any information that could help police locate Clayton Mays, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
