JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Council approved a lease agreement with Louisiana's Children's Medical Center to take over operations at West Jefferson Medical Center.
Under the terms, expected to be approved over the next three months, LCMC will pay the parish $245 million to operate the hospital and clinics for 45 years. The organization will also invest $340 million over the next 15 years.
Over the past year and a half, plans to merge West Jefferson with East Jefferson General Hospital fell apart. Another operator, Hospital Corporation of America, is in talks with East Jefferson over operating that hospital.
LCMC is a Louisiana-based non-profit that manages Children's Hospital, Touro, New Orleans East Hospital, the interim LSU Hospital and the University Medical Center that's under construction in Mid-City.
