Mother accused of threatening Thibodaux teacher

THIBODEAUX, La. (AP) - Police say the mother of a student placed under in-school suspension is accused of threatening a South Thibodaux Elementary School teacher.

Police spokesman David Melancon tells The Daily Comet ( 32-year-old Floria Ward faces charges of assault on a school teacher and disturbing the peace.

Melancon says Ward was booked after a traffic stop Friday on warrants stemming from the incident, which occurred Oct. 16.

Cpl. Leonard Firmin says in a report that a school official told him Ward approached the teacher saying she needed to talk.

According to the report, the teacher said she told Ward she wouldn't talk without an administrator present. She said she walked away after Ward began yelling and cursing, and Ward then threatened to beat her up.

It was unclear whether Ward has an attorney.
