NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Arrests were down and police manpower was up for Mardi Gras 2015.
The New Orleans City Council on Wednesday recapped NOPD's performance and gave out some commendations. Those commendations went to six officers who made a quick arrest after a double fatal shooting Feb. 12.
The officers were led by Commander Chris Goodley to arrest a suspect just minutes after he allegedly shot two men on St. Charles Avenue during the Krewe of Muses parade.
It was one of 443 arrests made during the 11-day Carnival period. It was an effort that required nearly 59,000 man hours, which was more than ever.
NOPD was assisted by State Police and OPSO deputies. They handled more than 3,200 calls for service in the Eighth District alone.
