Arrest made in fatal Broad Street shooting

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans Police have booked a man for a shooting that left one man dead and another injured. The incident occurred Friday at 2:36 p.m. in the 600 block of Broad Street. The shooting claimed the life of a 29-year-old man and left 32-year-old man injured.

According to police, New Orleans Homicide Detectives determined through their investigation that 47-year-old Alvin Richardson was responsible for the incident. Witnesses told police that Richardson and the 29-year-old victim were in a pickup truck at the corner of Broad and Perdido Streets. The witnesses said that they heard gunfire and saw the 32-year-old man, who was standing on the corner suffering from a graze wound to the abdomen. They then saw the truck drive to the Broad Street overpass where the passenger door opened and they noticed the driver push the body of the 29-year-old victim onto the street, before driving off.

Police say that Richardson was arrested Saturday morning by Gretna Police on a gun charge. Following an interview with Richardson, New Orleans Homicide Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Richardson for murder and attempted murder.

Once extradited from Jefferson Parish, Richardson will be booked with attempted murder and murder.
