COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - A popular St. Tammany Parish doctor is gunned down in his home, by his wife. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened early Sunday morning north of Covington, near the Folsom area.
According to a spokesman for the sheriff's office, Dr. Wayne Breen's wife, Kacie, called police around 3 a.m. Sunday to say she'd been in an altercation with her husband, after which she shot him. Breen died of a gunshot wound. No charges have been filed against Kacie Breen but the investigation continues.
Breen worked at the Doctors for Women Medical Center in Covington. Neighbors say they heard the commotion Sunday morning and were shocked to hear of what happened. They describe Wayne Breen as a quiet, polite man, who was well liked, and well known.
Neighbor Fred Lee says, "At about 2:45 I heard the sirens and police, must've been at least, I don't know, six to 10 units flying down the road."
"That's my wife's doctor for many years and I've known him to be a good guy, a real good guy," Phil Nicholson said.
Breen's patients are inundating the Facebook page of the medical practice where he worked, with condolences. Beverly Readlinger writes, "So heartbroken over the loss of such a wonderful and caring doctor and man. Dr. Breen has been my doctor for 20 years and I cannot imagine a world without him."
Kimberly Dillon writes, "Rest in peace Dr. Breen you will be missed by so many people whose lives you have touched. You were the best and most caring doctor ever!".
