NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - "The Sheriff's Office, about 3 o'clock in the morning, received a 911 call from Mrs. Breen that she had shot her husband," says Sheriff Jack Strain.
When investigators arrived at the couple's home in Folsom Sunday morning, Strain says it was clear that Mrs. Breen shot and killed her husband, OBGYN Dr. Wayne Breen. What they're trying to determine now is if the shooting was justified.
"Our crime lab folks got there and began collecting all the evidence, and Mrs. Breen was taken to our office where she began interviews with our investigators," Strain says.
Strain says Mrs. Breen told investigators that the couple, along with their 7-year-old son, were watching television Saturday night and eventually went to bed.
"Around 2:30 in the morning, she woke up and Mr. Breen woke up. They began a discussion about their relationship that apparently escalated into an argument and then physical violence," Strain says.
Deputies say they found obvious signs of a domestic dispute.
Mrs. Breen did not need medical attention, but Strain says the couple does have a history of domestic violence.
"We know that in 2012, a restraining order was issued, and was not re-issued, so it ultimately expired," he says. "We do know that there is a history between the Breens. We know that a discussion that night led to violence and ultimately ended his life."
Detectives are now working to determine whether Dr. Breen's wife was acting in self-defense or committed a crime.
