NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police arrested a man for filing a false armed robbery police report. Kyle Thomas, 20, was booked on Monday.
Police say that Thomas lied about being a victim in an armed robbery. According to police, Thomas told detectives that he was involved in an accident with an SUV on Sunday, at the intersection of South Broad and South White Streets. The driver of the SUV did not want to cooperate and get police involved due to outstanding warrants. Shortly thereafter, a red car drove up and the driver produced a handgun and robbed Thomas.
The driver of the car also took a picture of Thomas's license plate and threatened to kill him if he notified authorities of the accident. The driver of the SUV and the car then drove away.
While investigating, witnesses told detectives that Thomas's story was false and those events did not occur. When questioned by detectives, Thomas admitted to making up the story.
He was booked with one count of false swearing for the purpose of violating public health or safety.
