Kenner man booked in drug overdose investigation

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - Kenner detectives suspect a man lied to protect himself when his girlfriend overdosed on drugs and even staged a scene for first-responders.

On Feb. 22, 33-year-old Kevin Jago called police to report that his girlfriend had overdosed and was unconscious. First-responders found 26-year-old Cristen Lacroix unresponsive on the pavement outside the door of Jago's apartment. She died three days later.

Jago told police at the scene that she had gone out drinking with friends around midnight. He claimed she knocked on the door around 5:45 a.m., and when he opened the door, he saw a white truck pulling out of the parking lot. He claims she told him she'd "done a little coke," then passed out on the pavement.

Jago was unable to tell police who Lacroix went out with or where she had been.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives say surveillance video revealed Lacroix never left the apartment and was not dropped off at the location. Instead, investigators say the video shows Jago carrying her lifeless body out the front door and placing her on the pavement before first-responders arrived.

Investigators searched Jago's apartment and say they found residual amounts of heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Jago was booked with obstruction of justice, first-degree injuring of public records, illegal possession of heroin and prohibited acts related to the drug paraphernalia. He remains jailed on $42,500 bond.
