NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Heavy winds spread fire from an abandoned house to nearby buildings early Saturday morning in the Seventh Ward.
According to the New Orleans Fire Department the blaze started at an abandoned dwelling in the 1500 block of N. Robertson Street. When officers arrived on scene at 3:52 a.m. the fire was already spreading from the abandoned, single-story fourplex to the unoccupied double on it's immediate right.
As firefighters were putting out the fires on N. Robertson a third call came in that a fire had started at 1418 Columbus Street. NOFD says the cause of this fire is unknown, but they believe heavy winds carried embers from the initial fires and started this third.
All three fires were under control by 4:55 a.m.
Twenty-one NOFD units totaling 62 suppression and support personnel responded to the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
