Marrero woman killed after hit by car in parking lot

JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Troopers are investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a 24-year-old woman and left a man injured. The incident occurred Saturday, just after noon on Highway 45 near Bourgeois Lane in Marrero.

The deceased victim has been identified as Tabatha Jeblonski of Marrero.

Police say that 52-year-old Shelia Haggerty was driving an SUV north on Hwy 45 when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle. The SUV ran off of the roadway before entering a private parking lot. Tabatha Jeblonski and her 24-year-old husband David were both walking to their car when they were hit by the SUV. Both David and Tabatha were transported to LSU interim. David was treated for moderate injuries, but Tabatha was pronounced dead.

Troopers are working to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash. Toxicology tests for Haggerty are pending. Troopers are still investigating the crash and criminal charges are pending.
