NOPD: 13-year-old arrested for bringing BB gun to school

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 13-year-old was arrested Monday after he brought a loaded BB gun to school, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police say the student brought the gun to the KIPP New Orleans Leadership Academy in the 2300 block of St. Claude Avenue.

The teen told other students he had the gun in his school bag.

The students alerted school officials who searched the bag and recovered the gun. The NOPD arrived at the school and confiscated the gun.

The teen was booked for bringing a loaded BB gun on school grounds.

A spokesperson for KIPP: New Orleans Schools released a statement saying, "KIPP Leadership Academy takes the safety of staff and students very seriously, and we are cooperating with the New Orleans Police Department. KIPP Leadership Primary and Academy families are being notified today about this incident. We are grateful for the quick action of our staff and the New Orleans Police Department."
