Suspect sought for New Orleans East home invasion

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating 34-year-old Dwight Mitchell who is wanted for a home invasion.

Police say it happened March 2 at a home in the 7600 block of Alabama Street in New Orleans East.

Around 10:20 p.m., Mitchell arrived at his ex-girlfriend's residence and knocked on the door. When she opened the door, Mitchell pushed past her and confronted her current boyfriend.

The two became involved in a physical altercation. The current boyfriend discovered that Mitchell had a handgun in his waistband behind his back. He managed to remove the handgun from Mitchell and Mitchell fled the scene.

Mitchell is described as a clean-shaven, black male with a brown complexion, about 5'8" tall and about 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

A picture of Mitchell was not available.
