NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A woman claims she was sexually assaulted after she passed out in the French Quarter and was taken to a motel room by a stranger.
New Orleans police say the 22-year-old victim and her boyfriend were having drinks and walking around the French Quarter on Sunday. The woman decided to sit at the corner of Canal Street and Bourbon Street while her boyfriend went to get their vehicle parked nearby.
While waiting for her boyfriend to return, the victim told police she passed out and did not remember anything else. The victim then remembered she was lost and an unknown man approached her and asked if she needed to use his phone. The man then brought the victim back to a motel room to use the phone, police said.
The woman said the next thing she recalled was waking up several hours later in the motel room, lying next to an unknown man. At that time, the victim told police she left the room, walked to a nearby strip mall and asked a pedestrian to use their cell phone. She contacted her boyfriend and was taken to a local hospital for a sexual assault exam.
The victim said she did not recognize the motel and was unable to provide a description of the alleged assailant.
Police were notified of the incident on Monday at 9:13 a.m. The NOPD says the investigation is ongoing.
