COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - In separate cases, a state grand jury in Covington on Tuesday indicted two former employees of the St Tammany coroner's office and the brother of the former district attorney.
The grand jury indicted CPA Kim Kelly and Chief death investigator Mark Lombard. They are charged with three counts of theft over $1,500. Both were featured two years ago in FOX 8's Lee Zurik investigative series Body of Evidence.
We reported that Kelly used public money to buy groceries and shampoo. Kelly was also allegedly involved in a scheme that saw former coroner Peter Galvan, 10's of thousands of dollars in illegally obtained payments for vacation, and sick leave.
Lombard was charged for allegedly involvement in a personal contract between former Coroner Dr. Peter Galvan and the city of Slidell to provide inmate medical care, even though Lombard is not a doctor.
Bond was set at $25,000 for Kelly and Lombard.
Lombard's attorney Ralph Capitelli said he will vigorously defend his client against the new charges.
Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell said, " if you're in this office, and see something wrong, you can't look the other way intentionally."
