NOPD: Suspect used walking cane in beating, stabbing

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police are searching for a suspect they say beat a man with a cane after another man stabbed him in the back.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 59 year old Richard London. They say he played a role in the stabbing and beating on a man in the 1400 block of North Claiborne Avenue on Monday, March 9.

The 43-year-old victim told detectives he was walking in around 3:45 a.m., when he was approached by two unknown men who asked him for a cigarette. The victim said he refused to give them a cigarette and walked away. The victim said as he walked off, one of the suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed him multiple times in the back. The victim said as he tried to run away, London beat him repeatedly with a walking cane. The victim was able to get away and call police. EMS took him to the hospital, where police say he is still receiving medical care.

During the investigation, police say the victim was able to identify London from a photographic lineup. The victim could not identify the suspect who stabbed him.

Once apprehended, London will be booked with principal to aggravated battery second degree battery.
