COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - A 31-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle in Covington, Louisiana.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. Thursday on La. 1077 southbound at mile post 5.7 in Covington.
Colby Garrett, 31, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane when he was struck by an oncoming Jeep Wrangler. State troopers say Beau Turner, 17, was driving the Jeep when the bicycle traveled into her path.
Garrett was ejected and struck the Jeep's windshield, officers say. State troopers say he was not wearing an approved bicycle helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
Officers say impairment is not suspected on Garrett's part. However, toxicological samples were collected for analysis.
