METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Your Mardi Gras loot could turn into a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
Krispy Kreme is partnering with the Arc of Greater New Orleans Mardi Gras Bead Recycle Center for a three-day Mardi Gras bead recycle drive.
Customers who bring in 12 pounds or more of Mardi Gras beads to Krispy Kreme will be given a dozen original glazed doughnuts for free, or a coupon to redeem at a later date. The beads will be weighed.
The recycle drive will be held March 23-25 at the Metairie Krispy Kreme, located at 825 Clearview Parkway. The drive will be held from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. each day.
Arc's recycling service is one of several social enterprises Arc of Greater New Orleans manages. The recycling service is a year-round operation where Arc employs several adults with disabilities or developmental delays. These employees, along with an army of volunteers, sort, band, repackage then sell beads to carnival riders. According to Arc's Recycling Coordinator, Margie Perez, this past Mardi Gras, Arc sold over 150,000 pounds of beads.
