New Orleans police make arrest in gun and drug investigation

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Members of the NOPD Special Operations Division arrested 23-year-old Derrick Proctor after a traffic stop near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road.

Around 10:25 p.m Monday, officers patrolling the area observed a gold Nissan Altima driving erratically. The officers conducted a traffic stop,  activating their lights and siren, and pulled the Altima over on Downman Road.

While the officers were approaching the car on foot, they smelled the aroma of marijuana coming from the interior. According to the NOPD, the driver, who was later identified as Proctor, confessed to the officers that he had marijuana and a loaded pistol inside of the car.

Officers confiscated more than 6 grams of marijuana and a .9-mm pistol from the glove box.

Proctor was immediately taken into custody and booked on charges including possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics and numerous traffic violations.
