Pearl River child molester sentenced to 60 years in jail, no parole

PEARL RIVER, LA (WVUE) - A Pearl River man will most likely spend the rest of his life in jail after being confessing to molesting a 5-year-old girl.

Darryl Solomon plead guilty on March 17 to the sexual battery of a child under 13 and to being a second felony offender, according to the Public Information Officer for the District Attorney of Washington and St. Tammany Parishes. He was immediately sentenced to 60 years in prison without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Authorities say 38-year-old Solomon's crime was discovered on Sept. 9, 2013 when a family friend saw Solomon removing his hands from the 5-year-old girls pants from a front porch window. The witness said they immediately rescued the child and told the parents. When the parents asked their daughter about Solomon she told them he touched her inappropriately several times. The family then contacted the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Solomon fled to Virginia after he was caught in the act. He was found and extradited back to St. Tammany Parish where he confessed to the crime.

Police said that when asked Solomon why he did it, he responded "she was just a pretty little girl."
