CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) - Two cargo ships collided Friday morning on the foggy Mississippi River near the Chalmette Battlefield.
Officials with the United States Coast Guard say no injuries or pollution resulted from the collision involving two ships, the Heranger, a general cargo vessel, and the Costas L, a bulk carrier.
A spokesperson with the Port of New Orleans says the Heranger was entering anchorage when it lost power. It drifted into the Costas L which was moored at the Chalmette buoys. The spokesperson described the damage as minor.
The Coast Guard is still investigating the incident. The collision did not affect navigation on the river.
