HOUMA, LA (WVUE) -

A Houma man faces an attempted murder charge as a 6-week-old infant remains on life support.

On Sunday evening, deputies say that a 6-week-old baby was admitted into the hospital. Detectives received information that the infant was hospitalized for bleeding in the brain and other injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

The infant remains in the hospital on life support.

Detectives say they interviewed family members who cared for the infant during the weekend in which he sustained the injuries.

Marty Michael, 26, of Houma, was arrested on Thursday. He has been charged with attempted second degree murder.

Marcel remains in the Terrebonne Parish Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Police say the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
