Registered sex offender booked for using social media

BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) - Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Lonnie Greco says a Belle Chasse man, who is also a registered sex offender, is under arrest for maintaining a social media site.

Brian Sandoval, 28, was arrested in late January after police say he maintained a Facebook page. Maintaining a social media site is a violation of his sex offender registration requirements.

On Monday, Jan. 16, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Sex Crimes/Child Abuse and Digital Forensics Sections initiated an undercover operation of all 49 of the Parish's registered sex offenders. The results of the investigation determined that Sandoval was the only one maintaining a social media page.

Police arrested Sandoval on Jan. 24, during an unrelated drug investigation and was booked with 2nd offense possession of marijuana.

During the arrest, deputies say Sandoval admitted to a sex crimes detective that he had a Facebook and Instagram page and that he had recently accessed them in direct violation of his registration requirements.

Sandoval was rebooked on an arrest warrant for unlawful use of a social networking website. He remains in the custody of the Sheriff's Office at the Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 bond and a hold for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Sandoval was convicted in Jefferson Parish on December 8, 2014 for carnal knowledge of a juvenile and placed on four years of active probation.
