KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A Kenner man was arrested Thursday after his 3-month-old baby was found with multiple injuries.
Anthony Hamilton, 25, of Florida Avenue, was booked with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.
Police were called to Children's Hospital after the infant was diagnosed with bleeding on the brain consistent with "shaken baby syndrome," signs of previous bleeding from the brain in the healing stages, a fractured clavicle in the healing stages, and several puncture wounds consistent with fingernail impressions which had developed scabs.
Hamilton initially told investigators that he was changing the infant and had the infant's legs up high when he noticed the infant's eyes roll back. Hamilton claimed he pinched the baby but did not seek medical treatment.
At about 5:30 p.m., the infant's mother arrived home from work and could tell something was wrong. Both parents took the infant to Children's Hospital. When confronted with the extent of the injuries, Hamilton admitted he may have shaken the infant because he was nervous.
The Office of Community Services (Child Protection) has joined the investigation, which is ongoing.
Hamilton remains in custody, and no bond has been set.
