Suspected impaired driver kills bicyclist on Behrman highway

TERRYTOWN, LA (WVUE) - A suspected impaired driver struck and killed a bicyclist in Terrytown last night before hitting another vehicle and injuring two more people.

According to State Police, 34-year-old Jason Dejean of Belle Chasse was driving north on Behrman Highway, straddling the center turn lane, when he struck a bicyclist heading in the opposite direction. The bicyclist was thrown from their bike and died on the scene.

Dejean continued driving after hitting the rider, according to State Police, and struck another car driven by 23-year-old Vanessa Carbijal-Miranda with two other passengers. Carbijal-Miranda and her two passengers were taken to the hospital with minor-to-moderate injuries. 

Dejean was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on charges of DWI, Vehicular Homicide and three counts of Vehicular Negligent Injuring. A toxicological analysis will be performed by the state police crime lab.
