Coroner identifies man found shot, killed in Lake Oaks

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A man was found dead on Sunday night following a shooting in the Lake Oaks neighborhood.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, police say they received reports of a burglary in progress. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Oriole Street, several blocks from the University of New Orleans main campus.

New Orleans police say that  Herbert Meyers, Jr., 54, was found dead inside of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. He was allegedly found dead by his son. Officers say that the son exchanged gunfire with two suspects who were armed with AK-47s.

Following a preliminary investigation, detectives say that two suspects entered the home and fatally shot Meyers before fleeing the scene.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the individuals responsible in the incident, as well as a motive.
