Victim's friends catch gunman after he's shot to death in N.O. East

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A 27-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in New Orleans East.

The shooting happened at about 4:30 at the corner of Alabama and Wales Street. Officers were called out to investigate a male down on the front lawn of a home. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officers learned that two of the victim's male friends subdued the alleged gunman until police arrived. A 19-year-old male friend and the unknown suspect both sustained injuries during the altercation. Both men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The second unidentified friend was not injured during the incident.

This investigation is on-going.

Investigators are currently in the process of interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence, as well as a motive.

Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
