Police: Teen arrested for New Orleans East homicide

Elton Williams, 19 Elton Williams, 19
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans Police have arrested a 19-year-old for a fatal shooting that took place Monday in New Orleans East.

Elton Williams, 19, was taken into custody not long after the incident occurred. Elevterio Saldivar, 27, was pronounced dead as a result of the shooting, which occurred Monday around 4:30 p.m. in the 7700 block of Alabama Street.

Police say that two of Saldivar's friends subdued Williams until police arrived on scene. During the scuffle both Williams and one of the two friends suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After Williams was released, he was brought to central lock-up where he was booked with one count of first degree murder. Detectives believe that robbery was the motive, which led to the shooting.

If you have any information that could help police with this case, you are asked to call NOPD Homicide Detective Wayne Delarge at 504-658-5300.
