NOLA's Quentin Alexander, Joey Cook survive 'American Idol' double-elimination

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Two American Idol contestants with New Orleans ties survived a double-elimination on Wednesday night, advancing into the top 9.

This week's performances centered on the 1980s. Both Quentin Alexander and Joey Cook took on the decade with their own unique flair.

Quentin Alexander, a McDonogh 35 Senior High School alum, dug into Phil Collins' “In the Air Tonight” with a slow-burning intensity. Mobile users can watch the performance here: http://bit.ly/1CdiAri

New Orleans transplant and Virginia native Joey Cook took on Cyndi Lauper. Her rendition of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” featured her signature quirky flair in an outfit she describes as “Madonna in space.” Mobile users can watch the performance here: http://bit.ly/1Nckmhh

The competition continues next week with two New Orleans contestants in the top 9.
