Police name second suspect in Central City double shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police have named a second suspect in a Central City double shooting.

Police are now searching for Derrick Mercelin as a suspect in the case.

The double shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Third Street. According to police, a 28-year old man and a 36-year old woman were walking down Third Street when they were shot. EMS arrived and took the male victim to an area hospital.

A female victim was taken to the hospital by private car shortly after the shooting. Both victims are recovering from their injuries.

Police initially named James Marcelin, 23, as the lone suspect in the case. Acting on the tip sent in to Crimestoppers, police searched the home of Marcelin on Thursday. Inside they found Marcelin with a stash of bullets, marijuana and $5,000 in cash. Police booked him with two counts of aggravated battery by shooting, possession of marijuana and violation of his probation.

Police announced on Friday that they are also looking for Derrick Mercelin in the case. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
